Our friends Mike and Sam have been a huge part of our lives here in Utah, and in my growth as a photographer. It’s been so fantastic to have a support system of people I can talk to, commiserate with, share tips and advice with, and shoot with. Recently we decided to do a headshot swap since we’re both in the process of reworking our brands and our websites, and we asked Josh, one of our other friends and a member of our church, to come along to shoot promo videos as well. My shoot is coming up at the end of May, but more on that later. For Mike and Sam’s shoot, we started at their house to do footage of them just hanging out and interacting as a family, and then we headed out to do some edgy and fun shots at this great location out by Saltair. I’ve seen shoots done here by a lot of other photographers, but couldn’t figure out for the longest time where it was. I finally asked my Twitter photographer friend Amy where it was, because she had recently done a fab engagement shoot there, and I was so glad when she let me know. Now, because this location has been used SO many times, it’s not somewhere I’d want to shoot frequently. Literally, when we pulled up as the sun was beginning to set, there were SWARMS of other photographers there. I hate having to share space, and it’s more difficult when you have to use a location in a way you haven’t seen it been done a gazillion times before. BUT, for a first-time shoot there, and with people as awesome as Mike and Sam, I didn’t mind. :) Not even when we were literally being eaten to death by bugs. (Seriously, not exaggerating… I’ve lived in the south my whole life, where bugs are evvvverywhere… but this was some of the craziest bug action I’ve ever been around!)
Anyway, hope you enjoy the “edgier” side of Morgan Trinker brought out by the Kanzlers. :)

Had a lot of fun playing with off-camera lighting. It’s the first time I’ve used colored gels… love ‘em!

Utah is gorgeous.

Love this.

Used the laaaast little bit of sunlight left for these. The “softer” side of Morgan Trinker. :)
